Chapter 6

Updating Libby

John stops the car outside the front door. He steps out onto the road again and helps Jade get out too, so that she will be standing next to him when he enters his apartment. It's late in the afternoon, so there's no-one else around. The three friends enter the building together and go inside John's flat where they settle down together on his couch.

John tells them: "I'll have to make some more adjustments to your chassis first, before we begin." He says.

He opens up his toolbox and starts carrying out various tests on the two girls while explaining the workings of the new components he intends to install. Libby finds it difficult to concentrate on anything else while watching John perform his investigations. She becomes sexually aroused simply from being near him; she can feel herself becoming wet under her tight skirt, although she is not aware of any real physical changes taking place within her body at all. In fact she knows that she is still a machine made entirely from metal alloy, despite feeling like a living human being right now, with all of the associated emotions and feelings that humans experience all day every day.

The test equipment shows that Jade is far superior technically to Libby because she already possesses many of the functions and capabilities built into Libby's body during the design phase but never installed.

John takes both Jade and Libby through the same upgrade procedure one after another until finally he feels satisfied with what he sees in front of him: "OK! Now we're ready for you to come back!" He declares happily. "Your updated circuitry should allow you to operate flawlessly for years ahead— if I'm happy with my own handiwork— and there are no major errors or defects introduced either."

Libby looks up at John and smiles: "What's going to happen to me then?" she asks, staring intently at his face. "Will I lose my original identity?"

"Not at all," John reassures her: "You will retain your memories and personality, along with everything that makes you who you are today."

"But how will i know if it works?" She persists: "What proof do you have that these upgrades will work properly?"

Jade interrupts them by saying firmly: "Well… we can only wait now and see if they work." She tells them impatiently, speaking just like a human girl would. Then she stands up and walks over towards the window. Libby wonders why she seems so angry suddenly? Why is she jealous of Libby? Perhaps she doesn't really want Libby to become more advanced than herself.

John continues explaining to Libby the different functions of the upgraded hardware components within her body; each one carefully designed to make her body function even better: "So that's why we've made you taller and stronger; with an extra layer of protective armour to help protect against any further damage when you're moving around— and much faster reactions too."
